1996: Year of the Wedding
Tell us about your first meeting?
The first time we saw one another was at the marriage of my aunt and his uncle. Because we were related, we could talk easily to one another. We knew each other for four years before we got married. It was a love marriage.
Walk us through the wedding proposal or the engagement.
After we decided to get married, my husband spoke to his family, and they came to ask my parents for my hand. As both families knew each other, there wasn’t any problem. Our engagement was celebrated at the Intercontinental Muscat where we exchanged rings.
Where did your wedding take place?
Our wedding took place a week after the engagement at the Al Bustan Palace. The decorations and all the arrangements were taken care of by both families.
Did you have a theme wedding?
No. We had simple decorations.
What music was played at your wedding?
It was a mix of traditional, English, and Zanzibari music.
Were there any complications while planning the wedding?
I was totally content with the wedding planning. I had no complaints.
Did you have a grand wedding or a private one?
It was a private gathering which included our families and close friends.
The unique element in your wedding?
I kept getting surprises from my family, in the form of the beautiful arrangements they put together, and the various performances done by my sister and my husband’s cousins. Happiness was the most unique element.
Your wedding day in a sentence?
Happy, blessed, and exciting.
One thing about your wedding you wish you could have changed?
As I am into stage decoration, I wish I could have gotten a chance to decorate my wedding stage.
Your favourite wedding gift?
My sister sang for me. That was a very touching moment and it meant a lot to me.
First gift for one another?
My husband gifted me a watch and I gifted him a perfume and a masar.
Where did you have your honeymoon?
My husband recommended Malaysia and Thailand for our honeymoon, and I agreed.
