Noni & Tom: Real Life Wedding Stories

18th October 2013
Date of the Wedding

When did you both meet?
The first time we met was at a music festival on the Nasimi Beach in Dubai. We really hit off and spent hours sitting on the sand and talking to one another. Despite best efforts to get in touch again, it was almost a year before we met once more at a party. We started talking after a few hours of eye contact, and it was the same as before; our conversations lasted long. The rest is history, everything flowed from there.

Tell us about the wedding proposal.
Tom proposed to me when we were on holiday in Sri Lanka. It was a very romantic trip, with long walks on the beach and candlelit dinners. I was looking out towards the sunset across the ocean from the hot-tub on the balcony of our suite, and said ‘Isn’t this just a perfect moment?’ Before I realized what was happening, Tom came in front of me, dropped down onto one knee and said ‘The only thing that would make this moment more perfect would be if you would be my wife.’ I was blinking back tears and couldn’t speak, before finally saying yes.

Where did your wedding take place?
We got married at the Jebel Ali Resort and Hotel in Dubai. Their service and assistance throughout the process was exceptional. We chose Jebel Ali for its beautiful natural surroundings, lush greenery, and wildlife. We especially loved the peacocks that roamed freely around the resort. They became a special symbol for us, as our engagement party took place at the Peacock Inn in the UK. We felt looked after by everyone, especially the banqueting team, and many of our guests said that the food was among the best they’d had.

Tell us about your wedding dress.
My dress was made at the fantastic Susanna Rachel Bridal Couture. I had a very definite idea in mind, but it did not suit my figure. Susanna worked patiently with me and improved my ideas to create a very flattering gown. I wanted something cool, light, and easy to wear during the end of the Arabian Summer for a beach wedding. The dress was an elegant ivory silk-satin gown with a twisted strap detailing, a plunging back, and antique pearl beading embellishments. The embellished belt highlighted my waist.

Who were the maid of honour and the best man?
The matron of honour was Alison Hooper, my dearest friend for 17 years, who flew in from Sydney, Australia. She was a beautiful bridesmaid, and was a great support as well. Tom’s best man was Nick Middleton, his best childhood friend from Oxfordshire in the UK. Tom was also Nick’s best man when Nick got married a few years earlier. Nick’s two daughters, Hanna and Chloe, were the flower girls, along with my niece Martina.

The most memorable moment of your day.
The most memorable moment for both of us was when I walked down the aisle with my father. It was a wonderful moment having all our family and friends from so many countries standing around as I walked towards my husband.
